though I am not certain of that

Oil on stretched canvas

About as pure a pull/push toy as could be

I especially love that the roots are still tightly holding a clump of dirt some 140 years later

with a sandpaper finish to the surface of the dark red and dark blue painted frame that of course makes one think of sandpaper (marble dust) drawings from around the same time as this charcoal

Earliest Painted Treen Apple Box with Carved Stem, Beautifully Worn and Weathered Doubleday though I am not certainAs previously noted and perhaps as explicitly evident! I always have an eye out for turned wooden apples. I love them as objects, and as vessels, and as painted surfaces, and they vary a great deal depending on when they were made and the lives they have lived. This is I believe the earliest example I have found, with a carved, tapered stem, unusual, and the thin ribs from being turned on a lathe subtly visible through the very soft red and yellow
